The Watcher in the Tower

As old as time and long so,
The fight goes on and never fades.
What made us strong persists as resolute,
What keeps us fighting pervades.
Your clinging, grasping hold and stubborn,
Clouds your sense of past,
And what you always cast from mind,
I fear will always last.
Take a moment and fuse with sense,
Of what we once held dear,
Lest forget those times of mutual,
Days of hopes and fear.
To you old friend in your ivory tower,
As you sit as righteous king,
Never forget those precious hours you waste,
False reasons that you bring.
And thus we live our lives as hostile,
Never grasping ageing years,
You stout and resolute refuse to bend,
Me fighting my worst fears.
I hope that one day you will aspire,
To whit I know you hide,
And pints of beer we may raise,
Each other we may abide.
